Experience boat life in the port of Poros

Sailing a yacht is one experience. Just as wonderful for us is spending time in one place and immersing ourselves in the life there. From the yacht, the perception is completely different – close to the pulse and yet also being by oneself, watching the activity from the cockpit and setting off on excursions. And of course, sleeping on the water. That alone is an indescribable feeling.

We want to share the experience of boat life even without sailing. From 2027 we will reopen the calendar on AirBnB – then you will have GALINI in the port all to yourselves, as a floating apartment.

Love for detail

We chose AirBnB as a partner because we like the original idea of sharing and having joy in something together. Locally we work with wonderful people who have become friends. They will show you what you need to know on board.

How would we ourselves like to travel? We asked ourselves that question when selecting and equipping. We love fast boats that still offer plenty of comfort. Owner’s boats are our benchmark. Really good equipment, fully battened sails, everything properly maintained, and rather a bit more space than necessary. In the harbour you always stand out. The wow factor when you step onto the boat should never fade. We only choose yachts that are special and have the potential to become classics.

How can the experience on a yacht become environmentally friendly and sustainable? This question occupies us and is reflected in our boats. A yacht does not have to come fresh from the shipyard to bring great enjoyment. Only with age is it well equipped. We focus on yachts with special charm and outstanding features. We maintain them and install environmentally friendly equipment instead of replacing the boat after a few years.

We spend a lot of time on the boats ourselves and continuously improve them. A boat with soul can be felt. To feel the texture of the materials, to let the colours and shapes of the design take effect, and to be mindful in harmony with nature – these complete the experience on a boat. Having coffee in the morning in the bay, the sunbeams sparkle on the water and you feel the warmth on your skin. If the boat enhances that feeling, we are satisfied.

What sets our boats apart

In 2027, a second boat is to be added.

In Gouvia Marina on Corfu lies a Trader 39, built in 1979 in Taiwan. 11.89 metres, hull of GRP, superstructure of wood, inside solid mahogany, as is no longer fitted today. Boats like this usually end up as scrap – the market for old motor yachts has collapsed, and repairs cost more than the resale value brings in. We are currently checking whether we can save it.

The trawler is to become a floating apartment on Poros: two cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a saloon with a view of the water, a sundeck. Inside it will be warm and calm – light linen, ochre and terracotta, rattan, real plants, and amidst it all the old mahogany, lightened rather than replaced.

Why a boat and not an apartment? In Greece, short-term letting has become a problem: where many apartments go to guests, locals can no longer find one. A boat is not an apartment. It stands on no plot of land, it seals no ground, and it is not missed on the housing market. We would not be without a trace – a berth is also scarce, and we too are creating additional overnight accommodation. That is why the boat is to be fitted with solar panels and a watermaker, and the wastewater will be collected and disposed of on land.

We want to make the refit public – as a documentary, and through a crowdfunding campaign in which people can take part: with their own name on a component, with two nights on board, or with a week on board learning how to restore an old boat. The start is planned for 20 January 2027.

IN THE HEART OF POROS

Im Herzen von Poros

Poros is a cosmopolitan, picturesque island with a vibrant nightlife, great beaches and impressive sights. It is a pearl in the Saronic Gulf south of Athens. Directly in the port adjacent to the city centre, our boats are moored at the town pier.

Noch ist nichts entschieden: Das Boot ist nicht gekauft, Genehmigungen sind in Prüfung. Wir schreiben auf, was wir herausfinden – auch wenn es schiefgeht.
