Experience an exciting bluewater passage from Málaga to the Canary Islands – a route that combines real offshore sailing, navigation along the Moroccan coast, and relaxed island hopping. With our large and fast Hanse 575 GALINI, sailing pleasure is guaranteed! We use the northeast trade winds, plan the route according to weather, experience night sailing on the Atlantic, and decelerate from everyday life. After the crossing, there is plenty of time to enjoy the Canaries with island hopping, swimming, snorkelling, and excursions on land.
At the crew’s request, there is the possibility after leaving Málaga to make a detour to Gibraltar or Tangier in Morocco. The lively port city at the gateway to Africa impresses with its historic medina, colourful markets, and a unique blend of Arabic, French, and Spanish culture. Tangier is only about 120 nautical miles from Málaga, offers modern marinas, and is an exciting starting point for shore excursions, trips, or simply a touch of Oriental flair before the Atlantic passage. From here it continues through the Strait of Gibraltar and out onto the Atlantic.
Galini, our Hanse 575, is a true bluewater yacht – built for living and travelling on the sea. Galini is at home on the sea and mostly far away from her home port in Poros. You will be part of life on board. Not everything will go according to plan – sometimes something breaks or the weather changes our course – but that is exactly what makes it real. We are also very happy to show you the technology on board, and you can be involved in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking, right up to the technical side. No cruise, but a lived community, genuine experiences, and the magic of the sea.
In late autumn the best season for this Atlantic passage begins. The route offers an exciting mix of coastal sailing, bluewater sailing, and island hopping. We first sail along the Moroccan coast, with a stop in Tangier possible. En route, there is a high probability of observing dolphins and whales. The blend of culture, historical places, demanding navigation, and the vastness of the Atlantic makes this section one of the most fascinating sailing areas of all.
Our adventure begins in Málaga, where we depart after boarding and a thorough safety briefing. After provisioning and final preparations, there is the possibility to first cross to Tangier and enjoy the oriental atmosphere. Then we set sail through the famous Strait of Gibraltar – here we can expect heavy ship traffic and strong currents. Once we have left the Traffic Separation Scheme, we set course for the open Atlantic. The next days we spend at sea, using the steady northeast trade winds and experiencing shipboard routine, navigation, and night watches. After about 650 nautical miles we reach Lanzarote, the easternmost of the Canaries. Here we enjoy a swim stop, explore the volcanic landscape or relax on the beaches. We continue to Fuerteventura, where we have time for shore excursions, swimming, and trips. Our final leg takes us to Gran Canaria – en route a swim stop in a secluded bay is possible before we enter Las Palmas and let the passage fade out with Canarian zest for life.
For those collecting miles for their next sailing certificate: since we cross the open sea on this passage, plenty of nautical miles go into the logbook. Of course, we issue you an official mileage confirmation at the end of the trip.

Our beautiful GALINI is a very fast, large and comfortable yacht. She spent the winter in the Caribbean and will cross the Atlantic in April/May.
She is a modern Hanse 575 with 4 double cabins and a skipper's cabin. Each cabin has its own bathroom with electric toilet. Wi-Fi via Starlink (optional), multi media, generator 220 V / 7 KW, (230 V in all cabins), washing machine, air fryer and coffee machine. She has large solar panels, radar, AIS, a watermaker, hydraulic swim platform and a dinghy with outboard motor. An abundance of safety and navigation equipment and much more, everything needed to be self-sufficient without having to call at a supply port. A yacht that meets the highest requirements for safety, design and comfort.
The sailing characteristics are also outstanding! The Hanse was designed by Volvo Ocean Racers and is the fastest yacht in its class. Sailing pleasure is guaranteed!
In November the northeast trade winds usually blow steadily at 3–5 Bft (10–20 knots). Daytime temperatures are 20–25°C, nighttime 15–20°C. The water is a pleasant 20–23°C for swimming. It is mostly dry, occasional rain showers are possible. The Atlantic shows a long swell (1–2 m) and generally offers good visibility and clear nights for astro navigation.
Anyone who wants to can help with sailing, even steer the ship at times, or simply enjoy the beautiful nature and the day. In addition, everyone is jointly responsible for the well-being of the crew. That means everyone takes turns preparing breakfast or dinner. Usually the hobby chefs on board quickly emerge, and those who are not so much into cooking simply hang back and wash up. When berthing and unberthing, usually everyone lends a hand according to their abilities and after instruction by the skipper. The boat must be kept clean by the crew members during the passage. However, the marina staff takes care of the final cleaning.
All crew members (except the skipper) pay a jointly agreed amount into the crew kitty. From this fund all common costs incurred during the passage are covered (e.g. diesel, harbour fees, deposit insurance, transit log, tourist tax, national and nature park fees, service pack for the provided bed linen, final cleaning, gas, marina fee for the first and last night in port, etc.). According to old seafaring custom, the skipper is fed by the crew during the passage.
Berth charter is the best possibility for all those who want to get to know sailing life. Previous knowledge or own sailing experience is not necessary. But perhaps you have already gathered sailing experience, done a sailing course and want to deepen it? – Then the skipper will give you the opportunity to try yourself and help you gain future confidence. The crew can help shape the course of the passage and their wishes will be heard, subject to safety and weather. On such a passage you meet like-minded people, can make nice new acquaintances, and have an experienced skipper at your side who takes care of all nautical matters. The cabins on the yacht are usually equipped with different but very similar cabins. The berths are allocated by the skipper taking crew wishes into account. Entire cabins can be chartered by individuals, couples or families. Payment is per person and you don't have to worry about anything else.
We want to make sailing more sustainable and environmentally friendly. On GALINI we test different products that allow a great sailing experience while reducing the impact on the environment. At the same time, she is on a journey to explore the world. Her base is in Poros, Greece. But most of the time she is on a long voyage.
