Experience an exciting mileage passage from Málaga to the Canary Islands – a route combining real offshore sailing, navigation along the Moroccan coast and relaxed island hopping. With our large and fast Hanse 575 GALINI, sailing pleasure is guaranteed! We use the northeast trade winds, plan the route according to the weather, experience night passages on the Atlantic and slow down from everyday life. After the crossing, there is plenty of time to enjoy the Canaries with island hopping, swimming, snorkelling and excursions ashore.
At the crew’s request, there is the possibility of a detour to Gibraltar or Tangier in Morocco after leaving Málaga. The lively port city at the gateway to Africa enchants with its historic medina, colourful markets and a unique blend of Arabic, French and Spanish culture. Tangier is only about 120 nautical miles from Málaga, boasts modern marinas and is an exciting starting point for shore visits, excursions or simply a touch of oriental atmosphere before the Atlantic passage. From here, we continue through the Strait of Gibraltar and out onto the Atlantic.
Galini, our Hanse 575, is a true bluewater yacht – built for living and travelling on the sea. Galini is at home on the sea and mostly far from her home port of Poros. You will be part of life on board. Not everything will go according to plan – sometimes something breaks or the weather changes our course – but that is exactly what makes it real. We are also very happy to show you the technology on board, and you can be involved in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking right through to maintenance. No cruise, but lived community, genuine experiences and the magic of the sea.
In late autumn begins the best time for this Atlantic passage. The route offers an exciting mix of coastal sailing, bluewater sailing and island hopping. We first sail along the Moroccan coast, with a possible stop in Tangier. Along the way, there is a high chance of spotting dolphins and whales. The blend of culture, historical sites, demanding navigation and the vastness of the Atlantic makes this one of the most fascinating sailing areas of all.
Our adventure begins in Málaga, where we cast off after boarding and a thorough safety briefing. After provisioning and final preparations, we have the option of first crossing to Tangier and enjoying the oriental atmosphere. We then set sail through the famous Strait of Gibraltar – here we can expect heavy ship traffic and strong currents. Once clear of the traffic separation scheme, we set course for the open Atlantic. The next few days we spend at sea, using the steady northeast trade winds and experiencing onboard routine, navigation and night watches. After about 650 nautical miles we reach Lanzarote, the easternmost of the Canaries. Here we enjoy a swimming stop, explore the volcanic landscape or relax on the beaches. We continue to Fuerteventura, where we have time for shore excursions, swimming and trips. Our final leg takes us to Gran Canaria – along the way, we may take a swimming stop in a secluded bay before entering Las Palmas and ending the passage with Canarian joie de vivre.
For those collecting miles for their next sailing certificate: since we cross open sea on this passage, decent nautical miles go into the logbook. We will of course provide you with an official mileage confirmation at the end of the trip.

Our beautiful GALINI is a very fast, large and comfortable yacht. She was in the Caribbean over winter and crosses the Atlantic in April/May.
She is a modern Hanse 575 with 4 double cabins and a skipper's cabin. Each cabin has its own bathroom with electric toilet. Wi-Fi via Starlink (optional), multimedia, generator 220V / 7kW (230V in all cabins), washing machine, air fryer and coffee machine. She has large solar panels, radar, AIS, a watermaker, hydraulic bathing platform and a tender with outboard motor. An excessive array of safety and navigation equipment and much more – everything needed to be self-sufficient without having to call at a supply port. A yacht that meets the highest requirements for safety, design and comfort.
The sailing characteristics are also outstanding! The Hanse was designed by Vovo Ocean Racers and is the fastest yacht in her class. Sailing pleasure is guaranteed!
In November, the northeast trade winds blow mostly steady at 3–5 Bft. (10–20 knots). Daytime temperatures 20–25°C, nights 15–20°C. The water is 20–23°C, pleasant for swimming. It is mostly dry, with occasional showers possible. The Atlantic presents with long swell (1–2m) and generally offers good visibility and clear nights for astronavigation.
Everyone can help with sailing if they wish, even take the helm occasionally, or simply enjoy the beautiful nature and the day. Beyond that, all are jointly responsible for the crew's well-being. That means everyone takes turns preparing breakfast or looking after dinner. Usually, the hobby chefs on board quickly emerge, and those less interested in culinary arts simply hang back and do the washing up. When mooring and casting off, everyone generally lends a hand according to their abilities and after briefing by the skipper. The boat must be kept clean by the crew during the passage. The final cleaning is carried out by the marina staff.
All crew members (except the skipper) pay an agreed amount into the crew kitty. This kitty covers all joint costs incurred during the passage (e.g. diesel, harbour fees, deposit insurance, transit log, tourist tax, national and nature park fees, service pack for provided bed linen, final cleaning, gas, marina fee for the first and last night in port, etc.). The skipper is provisioned by the crew in accordance with old seafaring tradition.
Berth charter is the best opportunity for anyone wanting to get to know sailing life. Prior knowledge or own sailing experience is not necessary. Perhaps you have already gathered sailing experience, completed sailing training and want to deepen it? – Then the skipper will give you the chance to try yourself out and help you gain future confidence. The crew can help shape the course of the passage and their wishes will be taken into account, subject to safety and weather. On such a passage, you meet like-minded people, can make new nice acquaintances and have an experienced skipper at your side who takes care of all nautical matters. The cabins on the yacht are usually equipped with various but very similar cabins. The berths are allocated by the skipper taking crew wishes into account. Entire cabins can be chartered by individuals, couples or families. Payment is per person and you don't have to worry about anything else.
We want to make sailing more sustainable and environmentally friendly. On GALINI we test various products with which one can have a great sailing experience while reducing the impact on the environment. At the same time, she is on a journey to explore the world.
