Caribbean → Azoren, Portugal

In spring, conditions for North Atlantic passages are ideal: The route takes us from St. Maarten north to Bermuda; here there is the possibility for a stopover, shore leave and technical checks. Afterwards we set a direct course for the Azores – real bluewater sailing on long legs, with navigation, night watches and shared onboard routine. After provisioning and a shore excursion on the Azores, the next big jump follows to Lisbon, before the final leg along the coast to Málaga. The northern route is known for fresh westerly and north-westerly winds, ocean fauna and a unique sense of vastness.

Day by day

The route

Our adventure begins in spring on St. Maarten. After boarding, a thorough safety briefing and joint provisioning, we use the time to get to know the crew and prepare the boat. Once everything is ready, we set sail for Bermuda. Depending on the weather and crew, we make a stopover in Hamilton – perfect for fresh supplies, shore excursions and a technical check. Afterwards we set course for the Azores, navigating through changing winds, working in a watch system, trimming sails, observing the weather, cooking together and growing as a crew. If possible, we enjoy shore excursions and European culture on the Azores and later in Lisbon. The journey ends after the final leg on Spain's Sunshine Coast in the port of Málaga.

Our Galini travels the world – and you can be part of it! With us you are not an anonymous guest on a standard route, but part of a real crew that discovers new horizons together. We are not a classic charter company that runs the same trip every week. Instead, we sail together, experience real boat life and embrace the adventure that the sea holds for us.

Step aboard a well-equipped, lovingly maintained boat and enjoy the special: With us there is nothing off the peg. Every passage is unique – sometimes spontaneous, sometimes planned, always full of surprises. Unplanned experiences are just as much a part of it as relaxed days on deck. Do you want more than just crewing? We take care of the technical aspects and daily life on board together, you can contribute in all areas and become part of life at sea. Our passages combine holiday, experience, mindfulness and real boat life. Become part of our crew – authentic, communal and full of adventure!

FAQ

What tasks does the crew have?

Everyone can, if they want, help with sailing, even take the helm or simply enjoy the beautiful nature and the day. In addition, everyone is jointly responsible for the crew's well-being. This means that everyone takes turns preparing breakfast or looking after dinner. Usually the hobby chefs on board quickly emerge, and those who are less into cooking simply hold back and do the washing up. When mooring and casting off, everyone usually lends a hand according to their abilities and after instruction by the skipper. The boat is to be kept clean by the crew members during the passage. However, the final cleaning is done by the marina staff.

What does the crew kitty actually mean?

All crew members (except the skipper) pay a jointly agreed amount into the crew kitty. This kitty covers all common costs incurred during the passage (e.g. diesel, harbour fees, deposit insurance, transit log, visitor's tax, national and nature park fees, service pack for provided bed linen, final cleaning, gas, marina fee for the first and last night in harbour, etc.). According to old seafaring tradition, the skipper is provisioned by the crew during the passage.

What does berth charter mean?

Berth charter is the best option for everyone who wants to get to know the sailing life. Previous knowledge or own sailing experience is not necessary. But perhaps you have already gained sailing experience, completed a sailing course and want to deepen it? – Then the skipper will give you the opportunity to try yourself and help you gain future confidence. The crew can help shape the course of the passage and your wishes will be taken into account, subject to safety and weather. On such a passage you meet like-minded people, can make new nice acquaintances and have an experienced skipper by your side who takes care of all nautical matters. The cabins on the yacht are usually equipped with various but very similar cabins. The berths are allocated by the skipper taking crew wishes into account. Whole cabins can be chartered by individuals, couples or families. Payment is per person and you don't have to worry about anything else.
