We fell in love with the island!
It is a cosmopolitan, picturesque island with vibrant nightlife, wonderful beaches and many little sights.
Poros, also known as the "Bosphorus of the Saronic Gulf", actually consists of two islands, called Sphería and Kalávria in antiquity. During the last eruption of the Méthana volcano on the nearby Greek mainland, the morphology of the area changed dramatically and brought the islands closer together. They are now connected by a bridge across a narrow channel. Spheria sits on the volcano's crater, where the beautiful town of Poros unfolds.
The historic, colourful, neoclassical buildings give the island an aura of incomparable beauty. Blessed with the finest nature, from green pine forests to idyllic beaches, Poros is truly a wonderful island.
Why charter from Poros? It is only a little more travel time. In return you are away from the crowded marinas of Athens. Supermarket shopping is relaxed and prices are fair. The trip starts with a highlight right away. The boat handover is personal, not mass processing. Slow down in lovely cafés and bars right around the boat - and the restaurants set the tone for the days ahead. Before the sun sets there is still time for a quick swim at the beach. And in high season you are already at least half a day's sail ahead of the other charter boats.
Even though we have spent so much time here, the island makes us smile again and again
Life on the island
The island combines a tranquil landscape with lively nightspots. The main town has pretty lanes, traditional houses with blooming gardens and a view of the sea before the lanes climb uphill. In the winding alleys you will find many small souvenir shops, a few galleries and, of course, typical Greek tavernas.
A popular sight is the former Russian naval base, listed as a monument for its architectural distinction. It also gave its name to the Russian Bay stretch of beach.
The beaches of Poros
Although Poros is a rather small island, there are many beaches, most of them on the south coast and reachable on foot from the main harbour. One of these is the sandy beach of Kanali, where you will find a good choice of fish tavernas with great views. Monastiri is another sandy beach in the east of the island, ideal for water sports and spearfishing. In the northern part of the island lies a quieter sand-and-pebble beach called Bagionia. Mikro Neorio is another beautiful beach with refreshments, surrounded by pines. Limanaki-tis-Agapis, meaning Bay of Love, is a romantic beach with crystal-clear green-blue water surrounded by pines. Another lovely spot is Lemonodasos beach, which means lemon forest. The sandy beach is surrounded by countless lemon trees and a few water mills.
How to reach the island
Poros can be reached from several places. Ferries run from Piraeus (the port of Athens) to Aegina, Poros and Hydra - the crossing takes about an hour. From Athens airport, Poros is easy to reach by car. Via the Corinth Canal and Epidavros you reach Galatas in about two and a half hours, and from there one of the many small boats takes you across to the island. We are happy to help you plan!
